There are some great questions to ask that will help your business grow sales. May I ask how you found out about us? When you have a new customer, do you make it a point to ask that simple question? You should! In order to know what is working, or how people are finding you is important. Once you get this info make sure you put it into a log, database, spreadsheet or chalkboard. It doesn’t matter where, but you need to save it. Go back and look over your results every month and share the results with your marketing company. They can use this information to tailor your marketing to take advantage of channels which are performing and ones needing some improvement.
Would you like information on future sales/events?
Once you have a new client, you need to make sure they come back for future purchases. A great way to do this is through an Email newsletter. Just ask them if they want to receive future offers…if they say yes, have them fill out a sign-up form provided by your marketing company. This will record their permission to add them to your Email list and keeps you compliant with spam laws.
What is your zipcode?
In most transactions you complete with your customers, you will want to know where they are traveling from. Asking their zipcode is an easy way to get some geographical background on your customers without asking too much personal information. Again, make sure to save this info so you can see patterns on where your customers are most likely to come from, or distance they have traveled. You can then tailor your EDDM efforts or Google Adwords to concentrate more on these areas.
Take Personal Interest!
Any time you interact with your customers, take a personal interest. Ask their name and use it. If you have a CRM (Customer Relationship Manager) make sure you take full advantage of the ability to add notes on each client. When you interact with that client in the future and your remember or note something from a previous conversation, you immediately become a trusted acquaintance!
